This guy keeps kicking my [nocando]. I have tried this quest a dozen times. Same result. I wait a few levels and go back and wham! One hit and I'm gone. I'm 19th level and I still can't kill him. Is there a trick I'm not aware of? Thanks.

Hi

Try to rise your armour and vitality (either with more constitution or enchanted items that gives vitality boost) Then you should at least live long anough for drinking restoration potions. You could also try to take out the other trolls first and swap in and out of the cave with teleporterstones or the stairs. Hope this helps.

I went for lightning, all trolls seem to have a low lightning resistance.
Normal troll:
fire: 28
ligthning: -62

forest troll:
fire, poison:58
lightning:-32

the king is a bit higher. Prob is, he can cast Limbs of Lead. Try purple potions, they boost up resistances temporarily, place a teleporter outside the cave and vanish if you're in a tight spot. Reenter via stairs and target them again.

Shadow potions make invisible, then target the next troll by hitting NEXT to him, not on him. Maybe scorpions?

What character do you have? I managed to take him with my survivor around the same level - dropped a Death Scorpion (immediately after his 'speech'), ran to a corner of the cave & killed the Trolls using a bow. The scorpion/s take alot of the attention away from your character, & you still get experience from their kills - gotta love 'em .
I also find it handy use the pause key - slows down the combat enough to give commands eg re-positioning, drink potions etc.
If you haven't got the Deadly Gift skill I'd definitely recommend at least one skill point - the Black Market guy in Ars Magicana always sells scorpions (if you haven't turned him in!).

I've used the wall spel (mage) to summon 5 skeletons to keep him busy, while I attack from a distance.

Know what I did that is kinda cheap? You stand as close to the king as possible before he talks to you.And shoot him with a bow untill he has very low life, then walk towards the area where the dialog starts. He goes through his speech, brings his buddies and then killing him is very easy after that.

Did attacking him lower your reputation? IIRC, he is friendly until the conversation ends. Even if he does start off friendly, though, this technique would still work with area effect spell that do not require a target.

I finally beat him. used elemental hail on the trolls and then just kept wacking the king with my finger on F1 for red potion, lol. I bet I used 20 healing potions.

Switch to restoration potions; they are more effective.

My guys are level 15 same as him and managed to take him down easily. No need for gimmicks or anything else. He took my glass cannon Jahan down to 30% HP but everyone else was topped up all the time. Not sure if I have such good gear or what but there hasn't been a challenging battle in ages.

Fortify/earth shield/summoned minions are your friend!
