Any Way you could help us noobs with a listing of what skills don't do anything? (So we don't waste skillpoints).
(I.e. I heard there's something wrong with True Sight, and one of the archery skills for example.)

Save before making any big skill point investment, then give it a shot. Probably the safest way to learn.
Posted By: NeroJB Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 28/03/03 12:07 AM
My advice: just play youll end up with a level 20ish character that sucks, youll start over and then have an awesome one.

Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 31/03/03 05:12 PM
Most people finish the game around level 50, give or take 5 levels. By level 20 (or even 10) you should have a much better idea of how to build a good character to suit your playing style. I certainly did a better job in the game at the beginning compared to playing the demo.
Posted By: NeroJB Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 31/03/03 11:26 PM
just saying that around then you will be comfortable with the game...and as such be able to start over and make a decent character

Shouldn't there be a 4th school in the Survivor Class
I think I noticed it unlocked when I was level 50. Or was it because I have become the Divine One
There's this teleportation skill, and other damage spells. More like spells than skills tho'
Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 03/04/03 07:14 PM
Yes, the survivor's Path of the Divine is revealed when you become the Divine One.
Posted By: Dragon Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 03/04/03 07:17 PM
You're talking about Survivor's skill - Path of Divine.
That path become avilable only when you become Divine one.

Before is just an empty space.
I think most of those skills (Path of Divine) are useless.
Posted By: joliekiller Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 03/04/03 07:33 PM
Actually there is only one that you need: become ghost and that you can even get from the dragon.
Posted By: Dragon Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 03/04/03 07:40 PM
You need it to finish the game, but spell itself is useless.

I like the translocate spell. Wish it could be activated earlier!

My first time in this game and I expect to finish it around 42th level (I am 39 and have killed two mages of inner ring) and with soem luck I made an excellent character (warrior in normal level). I keot my skills till 12th level(and for that it was very hard at the begining) but then I invested them all in defense and offense kind of skills and strength (I got the mana and life from charms) and it worked out all right The advices given on load and save screens are quite good heed them

By the way I don't know if anyone noted this but the mana and the required levels are not noted on magery skills.

I thought I posted a reply to this yesterday, but now I can't find it.

Anyway, you are joking when you say this right? I don't wish to whine, but I didn't buy the game so that I could troubleshoot the skills to figure out which ones don't work. (in fact, with the limited documentation on how bonuses are applied I'm not sure I could ever figure out for certain if some of them work or not) I can understand leaving it up to the player to figure out that the survivor vision bonus is defunct because of the warrior path one, (I would like to complain about including skills that are basically useless even when functioning as planned, but that's another story). But, I've heard rumor that the "True Shot" skill doesn't work properly, and perhaps many others. It would be nice I think if someone could do the Noobs the service of plainly stating which skills are broken, and in what way. If nobody knows that's one thing, but it sounds like many people here have ideas about alot of the skills, and are obviously interested enough in the community to post here, so why not share this knowledge?

(So far the only info I've been able to thread is contained the suggestion's forum about skills people want "fixed", but it isn't really clear if people just don't like some of the skills/how they work, or if they're utterly broken).

Thanks to anybody who read this, and I thank you doubly if you try to help me out.

Posted By: Misterbill Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 17/06/04 05:52 AM
I am playing for the 3rd time. I played as a melee fighter and then a mage when first came out, so I decided to try a survivor this time around.

Two skills that I am finding useful that I did NOT develop in my previous games are Know Creature and Wisdom. I have Know creature at level 5 and my char is only level 25 at this point. Knowing resistances of mobs is a huge advantage in fighting them--you know their strengths and weaknesses rather than guessing at them. For example, I was using poison on mobs that are 100% poison resistant before I got the 5th level of the skill...heh...

Wisdom gives you nice little XP bonuses, but I now have it at level 4 which is an 8% bonus. I have mixed feelings about spending points on this, but it does make you level a bit faster. If you do decide to use it, my advice is to invest the skill points immediately at each level where you can raise the skill to get maximum advantage from it. When I hit level 30 (I think it is 30), I will be getting 10% bonuses on all my XP--a nice boost.

I also think at least two skill points should go into Enchant Weapon so you can add charms to your weapons and armor. I have several items that have five charm slots, so I may go even higher. You should only use the major charms on items you expect to use for a long time...this can be tricky since you are never sure what you will find....

I have Lockpicking at max (you can pick up a couple of thief skills at the Thieves Guild in Verdistis, so that saves using a couple of your hard-earned skill points). It is nice not to have to bother looking for keys a lot of the time, and what kind of Thief character would not be skilled at lockpicking?!

Although backstab is nice, my char is using a bow primarily. With a long sight range, he hardly ever takes any damage unless it is a mob scene...heh...and the freeze spell plus a poison arrow makes most mobs nothing more than archery range targets...hehe....
Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 17/06/04 06:16 AM

I maxed Wisdom as well. Even though it only gives you 1 extra level, I had spare skill points pretty much the entire game anyway (playing a warrior), so I was not giving anything up to learn it.

Wisdom - is it worth the skill points?
Posted By: tragic Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 18/06/04 12:09 AM
You know now that i think about it,mages only need "know creature" to the max.

The others maybe only need it uptil it shows hitpoints of the monster.

The reason being that a mage needs to know the resistances of a monster to fight it easily, while a warroir/rogue in most cases will use their weapon to do so.

Lockpick and Enchant weapon are for me the only 2 that you need to the max for any class.

My Mage found 'Temporal Storm' to be a very nice spell to have.

Granted it isn't the best Feat selection to choose, but for role playing purposes I found it to be quite useful when surrounded by mass’s of baddies.

how do u put an enchantment on wepons and things?
Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 05/05/08 06:59 AM
To add charms to equipment that has a charm quality, you need to invest in the Enchant Weapon skill.

Enchanting weapons/armour/items

There are also a couple quest related equipment upgrades.

The dragon breastplate can be upgraded by the dwarven smith...
once you have the dragonheart gem.

Silver Armour and Treasure Maps

Gathering the Holy Items and the Sacrifice

yeh ive got the 1st enchant wepon skill but i dunno how 2
Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 06/05/08 02:33 AM
Check out the first link in my post above.
If you have an item with a charm quality equipped and click on it in the equipment window, another window should pop up with charm slots, that you can drag and drop charms into (move the charm window over so it is not in front of your inventory window, then click and drag a charm from your inventory onto the charm window and release it). The number of open slots in the charm window is determined by your skill level of Enchant Weapon and the charm quality of the item.

Once placed, a charm can not be changed or removed.

If you keep dying, then you are either too weak or need better equipment / skills / spells (or more potions). If you keep exploring around the farmlands and to the east you should level a bit and find better merchants. You can also clear the orcs around Aleroth (wait until you have the associated quest before entering the troll cave west of the bridge). Don't forget about the catacombs, though.
There are also quests to do in Aleroth, and you may be able to avoid strong opponents in the catacombs and clear some of the weaker ones.

Over the course of the game, most warriors tend to average 2 stat points per level to strength, 2 to agility and 1 to constitution. This will vary a bit depending on the bonuses and requirements you find on equipment, especially near the beginning of the game.

Do you mean the teleporter stones or pads? The teleporter stones/pyramids can be used to teleport back and forth between them. Lanilor gives you one the first time you enter the catacombs after freeing him, and the other you can either teleport to or find near the bottom of the catacombs.

Usually you leave one wherever you set up a base (ie a bed and chests to stash excess loot, possibly close to merchants) and keep one with you. When you want to get back to base to sleep, pick up potions, drop off loot, etc, you can drop and use the teleporter stone you have, then use the teleporter stone at the base to get back to where you left off, pick up the teleporter stone (drag and drop it into an open inventory window, or onto the menu bar interface along the bottom of the screen) and continue exploring.
If you have both teleporter stones with you, you can toss one through some locked grates or into otherwise inaccessible places, and teleport to it (drop the other stone first so you can get back, or keep it in your inventory and toss the first one again).

You need to find teleporter scrolls in order to activate the teleporter pads. This will happen automatically when you click on a teleporter pad if you have the associated scroll in your inventory. A teleporter pad must be active to teleport to it (there will be a blue flame on the map beside the teleporter pad if it is active). Zandalor gives you the scroll to activate the Aleroth teleporter pad (west of the town gates). Once you activate the next teleporter pad, you will be able to click on the flame to teleport between active teleporter pads.

If you don't have the manual you can download it as a pdf file.

So do all the skills work properly in the game now? I read the post regarding someone elses same question, but could not determine the answer?
Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 18/12/08 08:42 PM

As of the last patch / game version, True Shot does not work, nor does the damage bonus from Crossbow Expertise. If required, iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) can be used to remove skill points from these skills.

I have some question smirk

In earlier times I used the skill "Poison Weapon" and I found it a great skill, but now I can't find out HOW I must use this skill! smirk
I have some poisonflasks in my inventory, the "Poison Weapon" skill is "active", but what now?

Must I rightclic on a weapon or leftclic? Must I clic on the skill-icon when draw a weapon I wish to poison? ... ?

I try different things out, but nothing happens and I did it earlier with the same game-install, so I know it isn't a bug ...

Thanks in advance wink
Posted By: Raze Re: Skills in Divine Divinity - 02/04/10 05:37 PM

Don't you just right click on the ground to poison your current weapon, after you set the skill to be active (and choose a poison to use if you have more than one type in your inventory)?

The Vault, Locus Inn and Xanlosch's site have been reorganized, and other links may be permanently broken. I'll go through and check / fix links...

It appears IGN's site dropped the DD info, so I change the links to the Locus Inn skill guide. All the other links have also been fixed.
