what about unarmed? i know raze beat the demon of lies to death unarmed with a bit of rejuvenation potions(200+) but skills involving unarmed combat will be very nice.

also to make alchemy skills more relevant & useful, why not a chemist-like skills that can make concoctions that have poison/explosive/corrosive/paralysing damage?

"beat the demon of lies to death unarmed with a bit of rejuvenation potions(200+)"

hey! It was 106 minor rejuvenation potions.

I played a game a long time ago where one of the character classes was a ninja or monk, who actually received a combat penalty if they used a weapon. They started off a little weak, but with the right training could do more damage unarmed than the warrior and paladin type classes.

Beating the Demon of Lies to death unarmed? Thats funny. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />
Thats just downright embarassing.

I think that would make the chemist skill more a lot better than it was in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />.
Why shouldn't a chemist be able to make a bomb. Or be able to simply put some poison in a spray bottle.

Heh. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />
It could be used on NPCs...they'd hand over goodies after too much tickling!
With a negative Rep consequence of course.
Or, a secret..: use it in a certain quest for much different outcome!

This sounds very much like Hellfire, the expansion for the first Diablo. It introduced two new characters, one of them a monk. He only fought hand to hand and he was pretty tough.

Putting a Monk type class would be totaly awesome, I played one In Never Winter Night's and the guy did damage beyond any fighter could imagine doing.. Given a Regen Skill and they are the ultimate fighting machine!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" />

Monks are in general overpowered in D&D CRPG games. In <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beyond.gif" alt="" /> there are however no facilities for unarmed combat, like unarmed combat skills.

Bugger! Divine Divnity 2 perhaps?

Are there any weapons we can invent that haven't been considered before? After all, with a combination of metal, wood, leather and magic, what can't be created? Perhaps a whip/flail/rubber band weapon could be designed?

Think of a weapon that looks like a flail with a blade instead of a ball. There's a wooden, leather-padded handle, a chain of small balls connected by magical energy, and a dagger blade on the end. The weapon is used similar to a fishing rod with the attcker throwing the blade towards the enemy while holding the handle. The magical bindings stretch and after a point, they pull the blade (safely) back to the attacker. The damage would be fairly average, of dagger quality in it's variety of grades, but the reach of the weapon would be greater than that of a haliberd. Perhaps the Survivor's dagger skills (Assassin's Kiss, etc.) could apply to it as well.

Yeeee this weapon sounds good, i want to try it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/evilgrin1.gif" alt="" /> Or maybe there coud be some rifles or pistols like in Arcanum - there was a magic and a technology and it was cool(looked strange) at 1st do some shoot then some magic. Shoting weapon in mages hands <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> Maybe Americans can use some magic agaisnt their enemyies <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I think that rifles would only work if they were solely made for enemies directly under the big-bad, but you could collect them when you raided their stronghold. Because of their great damage and ease of use, they might want to make the weapons a little less effective. Perhaps some of the pros and cons:
  • Lowered accuracy. (They're in early stages of development.)
  • Limited ammunition.
  • Cannot be repaired; the technology is too alien.
  • Individual Weapon Expertise skill – Rifle Expertise.
  • Low Strength requirements, no Dexterity requirements.
  • Great damage.
  • Average reload rate, between crossbow and bow.

You'd want to be very careful adding weapons like that to a medieval game. While they make an interesting cross-over, they can be received very badly by players, especially if it is unexpected. Perhaps another Archanum is needed?
