Greetings!
Just bought this game but can't get it to work. Browsed the forum for any helpful hints to get the game running, but no measures from my part have succeeded so far. Hopefully someone here might be able to help, since support@larian.com is on summerleave a few more weeks.
The problem? I seem to get past the cd-check just fine, the progress bar gets to 25% and then the dialog exits, only to be replaced by the "Beyond Divinity has encountered a problem and needs to close"-dialog. Upon examination it states that the div.exe file is responsible.
Some system specs:
Windows XP Home (SP1) running on Athlon 1900+, 80Gb HD, 1Gb RAM, Geforce4 Ti 4400, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy. Motherboard is an Asus a7v333. Just one optical drive (DVD-R/CD-RW combo, IDE).
Needless to say I did download and install nvidias 56.72 drivers (that support directx9), as well as Creatives latest soundcard drivers. I run directx 9.0b and dxdiag reports no errors. I tried installing the game the first time with no installation of directx9 from the game CD, and then with a fresh installation of dx9 from the CD. I have tried to start the game as version 1.0 and with patch 1.45 with no effect. I have tried uninstall+Starforce removal tools and reinstalling the game several times now.
I do not run any video filters that have been reported here to cause problems, I checked that the config.div is not associated with the divX-player, I checked that the files and folders are not "read only". Also, I do not run anything like alcohol 120% which could interfere. I had my antivirus system off during install and when trying to launch the game. I closed all unnecessary background programs before install and launch. I can watch the intro.mpg just fine with for instance windows media player. I regularly download windows updates as they come. I have been a nice boy
Oddly enough I can manually start the configuration.exe and fiddle around and when pressing the "Test"-button it works ok, but when hitting the desktop icon for Beyond Divinity to launch the game, it crashes as before.
Very frustrating since my gaming fingers itch. Anyone with any ideas out there?

Right after the CD check the game should change the screen resolution through DirectX and play the intro video.
If you run dxdiag (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does it report any problems?
Do you have any video filters installed? At least the ReClock DirectShow Filter needs to be disabled to play the game videos.
In Windows Explorer, if you browse to the ' ..\Beyond Divinity\Static' folder, can you view the ' intro.mpg' video?
Lady_Rain describes an MS patch for video related problems in the topic CRASHING TO WINDOWS.
Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before trying to start the game?

Hmmm I dunno, I installed some video codecs packs a long ago, maybe this codec was there also... How to check it?

I just installed it, rebooted my PC, and the game are still crashes

Yeah, I closed all process in manager, that could be closed (non-critical ones), and I disabled my anti-virus).

Maybe it could be help: After it changing screen resolution, the game waits around 5 seconds before crash. And when I'm playing in other games or just changing screen resolution, it swiches 1-2 times. But in BD, when it supposed to play intro, it changing around 4-5 times.
