Actually, I enjoyed it much that skills were not limited to a class, one class would sometimes just be better at something than another. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the ideas suggested, but let's not forget that playing, say, a barbarian, is a limitation you implement, not the game itself. If Larian would add something like 'demolish': great, but it shouldn't be limited to the fighter, nor lockpick to the thief. (I know that's not really what you are saying, but class-orientated thinking might result in such limitations.)
Being able to shape any character you want, that total freedom, is one of Divine Divinity's greatest assets! Let's not mess with that!

I am not saying for limiting it to a class (dear god the classless thing is the best thing). Just renaming your skill set if it becomes obvious that you are going for a barbarian or thief or wizard you could use some thing like skill renaming and let that skill do an other animation while it does the same thing. So you got your basic skill set that changes the names of skill oriented to how you use them.

Sorta like the hand in black and white. A good god has the same skills as a evil one but the hand changes if you use it in a evil or good way.

I completely agree with Macbeth.
Please don't limit the gamer freedom for customising his character.

Morbo
you could use some thing like skill renaming and let that skill do an other animation while it does the same thing. So you got your basic skill set that changes the names of skill oriented to how you use them.

It looks complicated and not really useful.

I too am not trying to impose a class system, i am trying to accomodate useful skills in another way so it feels that you are really playing a warrior/different character.

As you see lockpick and demolish are almost identical and of course you will be free to chose demolish even if you were a wizarding character.

Morbo's idea isnt a bad one..i.e renaming skills but the idea behind the skills is the way which the skill will be used.

E.g when you use lockpick you hear a sound of a lock and see a key turning.

With demolish your character runs forward and rams his soulder against the door(if its wooden), Or attempets to bend the iron bars(if is an iron gate) or is seen to take a great breath and use his hands to smash a barrel/chest with a smashing sound(like wen you smash a locked barrel in )

I did not say that Morbo's idea is a bad one.
I just said : it's not really useful.

Then you know, the Larian guys will read very carefully all the suggestions of the forum members and they will implement the best ones in the next game.
Of course, if they found at least one good idea

We are just talking about an idea and saying what we like and what we don't like.

An idea discussed before was that locks (or even doors/chests) could be breakable, if your character's strength was great enough. Perhaps equipping a crowbar (as in PS:T) could allow you to more easily break locks. I liked in DD that you could just click on a locked vase or barrel (while in combat mode) to smash it open.

I like the crowbar thing. Though if you were trying to break in, the noise should alarm the people inside, or the town guards.

Actually it's not that hard to script. A switch case would do it. And the OO aspect is done well the same method call could be used.

As for not useful well let's say it's not required for the game but could be a fun thing .(I didn't hear any complains of the DK vomiting animation? this is basicly the same thing). An if I might be so blunt those little details are important, it makes tha game stand out over all other generic RPG's. details are everything.

I am not saying that every skill has to do this (fire ball == fireball doe every char). but imagine this:

barbarian(strength high inteligence low) trying to use lock pick. He tries fails, tries again fails again. He gets annoyed and headbutts the door and the door falls down. again i am using barbarian as an example not as a pre defined char.

other suggestion:

How would you like the reputation system.

I like the system but an add-on would be nice. When you are going evil your character appearance changes (sorta like the creature in B&W). If the reputation is high maybe even an aura of light that appears on him/her.

Lol....i was talking to myself if anything about morbo's ideas...

I am a bit of a muddlehead.

Yes im sure larian will choose what they like and I (like everyone else) will say what we like or dont.

I was always interested in armour appearances...right now im playing a barbarian and wearing my dragon armour and its green..yet my character looks the same as if he was wearing another piece of armour.

That changing appearance thing Morbo: In order to apprieciate it fully i think we must be able to zoom in on the characters face, then you would really be able to see how he/she's changed.

Raze makes a good point about the strength requirement though...

Hmm I was thinking of an old MMORPG and on there your stats increased slowly as you used weapons and spells, I liked it when I tried the game back then...also a small crafting system could be handy, and a dungeon where monsters respawn after a period of time could drop the items at a low chance perhaps...

I'm hoping that unique or powerful weapons found won't have completely random stats each time

Also, I'm impressed with all the replies here =)

I'm sure they do and I'm sure that once in a while a suggestion (partially) finds its way into the game.
