We installed, updated and played Divine Divinity on a Vista machine (Vista Ultimate, the first official release) without any problems or any special action/change. Even without having to run it under compatibility mode.

If you still experience problems to run the game, please read the following:

- Did you try the compatibility mode options in Vista (right click the div.exe file and select Properties, then switch to the Compatibility tab)?

- Ensuring Application Compatibility in Vista (thanks to Raze for the link)

- Also make sure that you have enough priviliges/rights to install programs.

It could be that running the setup application seems to hang, but this is Vista "checking" the executable and that can take a while.

i am playing under windows vista and i can't charm a weapon or armor. i have items that say 1, 2, 3, or 5 charms but i am not able to charm the items. reading the manual there is a plate that is suppose to display when you click on the weapon i believe. the only thing that happens when i right click on the weapon is it arms the weapon. when i left click on the item, it poisons the weapons if i have that selected under spells. i also tried to drag the weapon/armor/charm over each other in multiple combinations with no effect. can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

You need to left click on an equipped item (does not work from the inventory) with a charm quality listed in the stats, and also need to know the Enchant Weapon skill. Don't right click first, as that will activate your current secondary skill.

If that is what you are doing, the charm window may be opening off screen. This can be caused by using an exploit that the patch fixed (the DVD version is already updated, as are most re-release CD versions), or by opening a charm window near the edge of the screen and later reducing the game resolution.
Run the configuration program and increase the resolution, start the game, open a charm window, move it into the center of the screen and close it. Quit, run the configuration program again and restore the original resolution; now when you re-start, they should open on screen.
If you are already playing at 1024x768 in the CD/DVD version, you can edit the config.div file (in Notepad or another text editor) to temporarily play at a higher resolution, such as 1280x1024. Note: with the disk versions, the game itself may be fine at higher than supported resolutions, but opening the auto-map can cause the game to crash (the downloadable version can use any resolution supported by your system).

In my Inventory screen, when I double click to equip my gear, it either disappears (still equips though) or appears in the arrow quiver field of the inventory screen... belts, rings, etc. Also, my demon companion is equipping boots and gloves, even though there's no actual field allocated to him for these items... help me please. Some items I've equipped disappeared entirely, but when I go to sell something in the merchant screen, it will show up there (yellow- as equipped); problem is, I can't unequip it, or remove it from my character...

Any help I can get would be very appreciated- I can't play this whole game like this. Not having control over equip distribution defeats the purpose of playing RPG's!

I'm running Vista... I did also install the Feb 2009 patch V 1.49 immediately after installing. I'm playing the disk version, 2004.

This is an infamous Vista problem. There are many topics to be found on this bug in these forums. Running the game in compatibility mode for Windows 98/ME should prevent the bug from happening, but it won't fix a game where it's already happened - hopefully you haven't played to far because you'll need to start over.

Thanks for the response- wow, quick too! I wasn't even holding my breathe for a response period, LOL! I appreciate it. I just got my first battlefield key, so I'm not too far in.

I am playing Divine Divinity purchased from http://www.gog.com.

I keep running to crashing problems with vista. I have tried the game set to XP SP2 compatiblity and 98/ME compatibility. Both settings continue to have crashes. I am also running as an administrator. I changed the folder where the program is installed to allow read/write as a user as well. None of these actions have prevented the crashes.

The crashes always happen when I am fighting large groups of monsters.

Any ideas?

Scott

According to Google, this is generally related to 16 bit programs running under 32 or 64 bit versions of Windows with a 64 bit CPU. A problem or corrupt 32 bit program can be at fault, as can a virus or trojan. One report out of a handful I checked said anything run from a CD/DVD gave this error.

In this case are they getting the error trying to install or play the game? They could try the manual install procedure (written for the CD release, but should be usable for the DVD release, as well, unless you rearranged a bunch of stuff).

Thank you, Raze. I'll suggest this to the customer.
