Larian Studios Forums Beyond Divinity (English) Technical Problems Vista & Australian Version

I've installed the version that came with the game - 1.39 or about that - and I was not asked to enter the CD key on the CD tray. I confirmed the language is Australian in the registry.

I downloaded the 1.45 AUS patch and it installed OK.

But I cannot launch the game on Vista Business - even with compatability mode - a dialog box titled "Copy Protection System" with an error "This application can be launched with a release version of MS Windows 95/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/Server 2003"

Is there a way to fix this?

MS changed the way drivers are installed in Vista, which breaks backward compatibility. The Starforce copy protection drivers will not install properly, preventing the game from running.


If you change the language in the registry to 'English', it should allow you to install the 1.49 North American / UK English patch, which removes copy protection. Other than a different version of Starforce, I wouldn't expect the Australian publishers to have made a lot of changes to the game itself, so hopefully there shouldn't be any problems with this (several people have installed the English patch over other localizations, in a partly-successful effort to switch languages).

There is a download and description of a reg file in this topic to change the language, though it sounds like you wouldn't have a problem doing it manually.

I don't know if the Australian BD publisher has any plans to release an updated patch to remove the copy protection, but I would guess not, if they haven't done so by now.
