i know how to enchant but i cant figure out how to insert charms into charm slots. im guessing that i can do it myself much like inserting gems in diablo ??

no i cant rtfm because gamersgate doesnt have one yet! :P

Right-clic on an armour you want to charm and you'll have a window with the possible choices.

hmm one of the first things i tried was right clicking, alongside dragging and dropping.
neither did anything.

can the item be equipped when you try?
does right-click also apply to weapons and jewelry?

you can charm any piece equipped or in ur inventory, if it says " empty charm slot " at the bottom of the stats in gray letters

Yeah, you can only put charms in items that have an "empty charm slot". If it does, when you right-click on the item there will be a "Charm" option in the context menu that appears.
