Raze's starter help, everything else are just links
Try deleting all of the files in the '..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder. Then re-boot (amazing how many weird glitches that can get rid of), shut down all non-essential programs, fire up Divinity, start a new game and see if hotkeys/right clicking work. If so, check your latest save again.
This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start the game. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem.
After this, if a new game works but your main one doesn't, there may be something wrong with the saved game folder itself. If neither work, there could be a problem with the game, in which case re-installing might help.
Zip or otherwise backup your saved games folder to another location first, just in case. Then un-install, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game, perhaps start the game and see if the problem persists (usually not necessary, but would help identify problems cause by the patch), re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, install the patch, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, start the game. This procedure is a bit over-cautious, but the best way to avoid install problems.

I have reinstall the game three times and put my save files in another folder. Although when I start up the game, I get "file read error" and then the screen turns green. I just do not understand. I have never had this much of problem with this game ever before. Can someone please help ?

Targa is actually the name / pronunciation of .tga files. I knew they were graphics files, but not the pronunciation, until I just searched Google for "Load Targa". Now that I know that, I have a good idea of your problem.
Check your '..\Divine Divinity\Run\static' folder. This folder contains the background of the main menu, as well as the start/finish game loading indicator. Try opening each of the .tga files in a graphics program, one or more are likely corrupt. Check the sizes, as well; the values from my files are below:
back.tga 1,440,018 bytes backe.tga 2,359,314 bytes backs.tga 921,618 bytes load_screen_a.tga 274,529 bytes load_screen_b.tga 274,529 bytes
If any of these are corrupt, you can replace them from the files on the Play Disk, under '..\disc3\static'. If they are all fine, there may be a problem with one of the file involved in displaying the graphics.

The old forum had the manual install instructions, describing which rar files had to be extracted where. You could contact CDV for them.
Alternately, I ran a program called FileCheck on my install of Divinity (with the 1.32 patch), with the files in the dynamics folder deleted, and the saved games moved. This program creates a list of CRC-32 values (the error correction used in zip files) for a set of files or folders, and can compare that list to a folder. FileCheck is freeware, small and does not require an install.
You can compare my crc file to your install, and identify other missing or different (possibly corrupt) files. This program expects the files to be in the original locations, so you will probably have to open the crc file in a text editor and do a search and replace to change my install path "E:\Divine Divinity" to match your own. The person I did this for originally in the old forum found about 10 or 15 files which were different; only one was actually corrupt (0 bytes, in fact), the rest just failed to match due to different settings or options, etc.

Sorry, there was a typo in the URL, the link works now. The FileCheck program will not help getting the files off the CD, but can help identify other missing or corrupt files. Try just getting the Static folder fixed first, and if that doesn't get the game going, use this program to see if there are any other missing files.
Is there any physical damage to the CD? Do you have another CD-ROM/CD-RW/DVD drive you can try from? The drive you are using may have a problem with the CD, while another might not. The tga files (and objects.000) in the Static folder are small enough to email, but the 'heroes' and 'imagelists' folders are much too large. Do you have access to another computer you could install the game on, zip the files and then transfer by network/CD-R?
Try copying them again. If the install program ran into a problem at this point, it may have opened/locked the files, preventing windows from accessing them. Re-booting would clear that up, if that was the problem.

There may not be any phyical damage like scratches, but there could be something wrong with the disc

If your room mate's computer doesn't have a CD-R drive or some other way to transfer them to your laptop you may have a problem. The Static folder and subfolders contain 1.6GB of data; too much for email Can you try just copying the files to the hard drive from Windows Explorer? That might work better than zipping right from the CD. Maybe not, but worth a try. Did you buy the game locally from someplace that has demo computers? If so, they should be willing to try installing the game, and replace it (if it was bought recently) if the CD is defective. My crc file contains the name and path for all of the game files, so you can re-construct the locations from there. Once the old forum is up, there are a couple posts with the manual install procedure, which you can also get by contacting CDV.

I finally got the game to work. I was missing alot of files. I am still not sure what happen. Thanks for all your help. If anyone else has the same problem, this might help them. You are also able to install the game manually, please attend following instruction. Note: You need WinRar 3.0 which you can download for free at www.rarlab.comInstallation: 1. Please insert "Installation Disc 1" and beginn installation 2. Cancel installation at 1% 3. Open the CD with "Explorer" then go to [Disk1] folder and unzip "imagelists.rar" to "C:\Programme\DivineDivinity\Run" 4. If you will be asked to overwrite existing files, accept. 5. Insert "Installation Disc 2", there you also find "*.rar" files I think (5 files), please also unzip them to "C:\Programme\DivineDivinity\Run" 6. After that insert "Game disc" open [Disk3] and copy the folders [localisations] and [static] again into "C:\Programme\DivineDivinity\Run" 7. Unzip existing *.rar files to you'll guess it to "C:\Programme\DivineDivinity\Run"
