Hi everyone, I'm new around here...

Anyway, I had 4 questions about quests and places in the beginning of the game:

First off, when Folo gives you the quest to rescue his pigs, I went to Jackson's Farm and saw the 3 guards. However, when I tried to talk with any and all of them, they all gave me that "half dialog" box, if you know what I mean (meaning the dialog that they quickly say to you, without stopping you or allowing you to mindread... It's the small, kind of translucent box).
So, because of this, did I mess up something, or am I doing something wrong? Any information on how to complete this quest would be appreciated.

Second of all, I made the HUGE mistake of destroying all the crates in Farmer Jackson's house, so I was wondering if there was any other way to get the key up on the rafters, or if jumping on the crates was the only way. If I am SOL because of destroying the crates, can somebody please tell me if I missed any good items (besides Carl's journal for that quest...)? Thanks!

Thirdly, I read the jailed bandit's mind for the "Into the Bandit's Den" quest, thus completing it. Does this mean I'm not able to do any of the quests in the Bandit's Lair?

Fourthmost and finally, I defeated that weird Goblin ball-shaped creature (Hjalmar or whatever his name was), and I am trying to find Captain Rodney, because I heard you can give it to him to complete a quest. However, I have 2 problems: First, I don't know where to find him, as I looked in the barracks, but to no avail... Second, I found Hjalmar's mask, but I haven't received the quest yet. Is it still possible to start the quest AFTER you've already found the mask, or is this not feasible?

Anyway, thanks again for answering all my questions, and I'm very much looking forward to playing the Dragon Knight Saga, as well as being a part of this forum!

P.S. - Happy (almost) summer, everyone!

You need to talk to the pig before you can get the guards to leave.

If all the crates are destroyed, you cannot get the key as far as I know. That will lock you out of one quest, but the reward isn't spectacular. If you want, you're close enough to the start of the game that you could easily just start a new game, and this time SAVE OFTEN IN MULTIPLE SLOTS.

Did you tell Louis where the Bandit lair is? If you haven't told Louis about the bandit lair, then you can still complete the quests.

My guess is that you saved Quincy from the watchtower, which triggers Rodney to appear on the roof after you talk to Peavey on the roof.

You can still get the reward for Hjalmar's mask.

There are a couple ways to get rid of the guards, other than talking to Kevin (the pig) and then Lomax (though that is the easiest method). After turning in at least 1 goblin heart to Richard, he will offer you another quest. Depending on how you solve that quest, the guards may not be around to stop you from talking to the pigs (though arguably the best result would be to refuse Richard's second quest, and then side with the guards)...
Click to reveal..
after that you can mindread Lomax for a stat point, when he thanks you for the help. Since Richard gets killed this way, you might want to hold off until you have cleared most of the goblins from Broken Valley, and gotten all the hearts you are going to get.

You get a higher jump later in the game (level 6, or so, when you have access to the full Broken Valley), and can easily jump up onto the rafters.

In the barracks, where Louis usually is (and Rhode goes to talk to him), between the stairs down to the cells and the short set up to where Captain Rodney usually is, there is a sign with wanted posters (read it repeatedly to get all 5 quests).

There is no problem finding quest NPCs or items before getting the associated quest.

While technically, you are right that the talking-to-Richard method is an option, it's the least optimal method possible to solve that quest.

It's a completely unrelated quest, which you can do at anytime before the halfway mark of the game, and doing that one now keeps you from getting the maximum reward from "Hearttaker". And it's much harder and takes longer than just talking to the pig.

In the original release of D2:ED I accepted and completed Richard's second quest before talking to Folo to get the quest to rescue the pigs, so the guards were long gone.

Thanks for the help, guys, as your advice was very helpful!

I was actually able to solve Folo's pigs quest before reading your posts, as for some reason when I talked to Lomax again, he gave me the "full-on" dialog box, so I figured out what to do from there... It's kind of weird, though, because several of my friends who played the Dragon Knight Saga have reported this EXACT SAME incident, in which they can't talk to Lomax for the first few tries, and then all of a sudden they can talk to him later on. But the REALLY weird thing is that when they played the original Divinity II: Ego Draconis (meaning non-Dragon Knight Saga bundled version) they didn't have this problem. So it must be a bug or something...

Additionally, I did find Captain Rodney after looking, and he was in the Barracks dormitory/kitchen, which is again kind of weird, because (I think) I went there earlier, and he wasn't there. However, I believe that I went into that room before turning Peavey in, so that may have changed Rodney's location.

Now, about that higher jump: So, as a kind of off topic, yet also completely relevant comment, I would just like let you guys know that I play RPG games very slowly and thoroughly, to a point where I try to get as much game time out of a campaign as is physically possible. This means 2 things... First, I would rather not start over my game unless I REALLY have to, as I've already invested probably 15-25 hours (possibly more) into the game already. That isn't to say that I'm not that far into the game: When I posted my original questions, I already had cleared all of the areas near and around Lovis's Tower; I just hadn't finished all of the villager's quests yet, mainly because I hadn't figured out how to finish some of them... The second thing that this means is that I'm at about level 12 already, so that's double the level 6 requirement needed for the "higher jump"... My question though is how exactly do I get this higher jump? Is it a skill towards which I invest points? Because I don't see that skill anywhere, unless I'm mistaken. Furthermore, when I do get this higher jump, how exactly do I get onto the rafters, them being so narrow and all? Won't my character not be able to remain standing and/or balanced on them?

Next off, I have already killed all the bandits in the Bandit Lair with the help of the New Order guards, and the last place I left off at was the temple at the end of the lair with all of the human sacrifices (I almost cleared it, but then the guy who talks to you when you enter the temple teamed up on me with 4 melee, 2 mage, and 2 ranger skeleton minions all at once, and then utterly destroyed my character in a matter of seconds... Another thing I'd like to mention is right before I entered the Bandit's lair with the New Order, I ran into some bandits fighting 2-3 "Robin Hood-style" dressed characters just a little ways away (near a mountain pass-like area and a clearing just below the fortune teller) and I sided with the bandits. We defeated the other group, and the female bandit leader told me to come to their lair anytime, and just to remember that the password was "Beetroot". So, does the fact that I already killed off the bandits in their hideout mean that I can't do any of the bandit's quests, EVEN THOUGH I saved that group of bandits not just 3 minutes earlier? If so, could somebody please tell me about how many quests were offered in the Bandit's Lair, and if the rewards were anything worth starting my game over for?

On another note, however, as long as you guys don't answering them, I actually have a bunch more questions (I'll be forever in your debt if you answer them! Well, to be honest, I'll probably just be really appreciative... hahaha ).

Anyway, the first one is when Richard asked me about the "goblin heart" quest, I accidentally clicked on the wrong dialog text, thus turning that quest down... Does this mean that I can never do the goblin heart quest, as well as any of the other quests for Richard that take place after completing his goblin heart one? Also, am I forever stuck with the goblin hearts I've collected in my quest items inventory? Because if quest items take up inventory space, at the rate I collect items, even ONE used and unnecessary inventory slot is a burden for me...

My second question is about where to find that "big game" that I need to hunt in order to complete the quest for that guy in the tavern... Does anyone know where to find it?

Third of all, where can I find the key for Louis's storage outside of the church? I read somewhere that it's in or near a fireplace, but I can't figure out where that fireplace is...

Fourthmost, I read somewhere that when you mindread Talana, she mentions something about her weapon dropping somewhere in Broken Valley. However, when I mindread her before she died, I thought I remember reading something completely different, unless I missed part of what she said. So, if this is true, and she did, in fact, drop a weapon, can somebody please tell me where to find it?

Next, I am trying to complete the quest for the guy who got Soul Forged with a white chicken, but I can't seem to find the chicken anywhere... Does anyone know where it is?

Sixth and finally, there is a lever I used over by a creek in Broken Valley. The one I'm talking about is just downstream and on the opposite side of the river from Robin's storage (meaning the underground entrance under the big tree, in the area with all of the goblins and Black Ring scouts).

Anyway, this lever is just on the edge of the island that the broken-down circular shrine is on (meaning the one where when you initially walk up to it, that mage summons three goblins for you to fight, and then disappears). My question though, is what exactly does this lever do? I defeated all of the goblins standing near the lever, so I thought it might reveal some goblin cave or something similar, but I can't find anything that resulted from moving the lever. And while we're on the subject of useless levers, the one over by Mouse and that chest (near the village) did nothing either, as far as I can tell. So, if anyone could tell me what both of these levers do, that would be highly appreciated.

Anyway, thanks a million, everyone, and I'm looking forward to seeing your posts!

EDIT: Sorry for such a long post; I tend to write a lot, so you guys might want to get used to it, now that I plan on being part of this forum... lol rolleyes

If you're met Talana, then you already have the better jump. If when jumping forwards or backwards, you do a flip, that means you have the better jump.

The Temple of Doom in the Bandit Camp IS hard. You need to use a bow and stay on the path of corpses or else you'll die to poison.

The weapon you get from mind-reading Talana is pretty terrible. You need to be level 12 to use it, and the only neat thing is the three Enchantment slots, but you probably don't have any good formulas, or the means to create them if you did.

If you killed the bandits then yes, the quests there are gone. Duh. The rewards are pretty generic, but there are one or two bandits you can mind-read to get an extra attribute point. Nothing worth re-doing 16 hours for.

If you turned down Richard's quest, talk to him again and see if you get the option to accept it. If you can't get that option again, then no, you can't do it.

There are two places to find the big game. One is near the Quarry, and the other is done by visiting at least two special shrines. You'll know them when you find them.

I've never heard of the key to Louis' storage. It's only unlocked as far as I know, if you let the new order drunks off easily. If you turned them in, it's locked for good. I could be wrong, though. Nothing much worthwhile in there by the point you are now anyway.

There is no quest for the chicken-soul-forged guy. You can't help him, you can only kill the chicken to kill him.

That lever is one of four. Find all four and a surprise - the good kind - appears.

Jumping onto the rafters in Jackson's house is actually very easy; just stand almost under a rafter, jump straight up and then move slightly forward. I was thinking it would be difficult, or might need to try to jump onto one of the large cooking pots, but got directly onto both of the main rafters in 1 or 2 tries.

Captain Rodney was away from his desk, waiting for you to confront Peavey so he could step in and arrest him.

After you enter the Temple of Doom, it would help to summon your creature (another couple levels wouldn't hurt, either). If you don't have your creature yet, explore to the far west of Lovis' tower (north west of the bandit ambush).

Talana's sword Slayerbane is near the top of a mountain path just west of where you meet Talana (the path goes down to the entrance to the Maxos Temple area).

There are really just a couple side quests in the bandit camp, other than the ambush (which you can solve either way whether you encounter the ambush first or get the quest in the camp). The guy you could free from jail would have been a decent trader (though I mostly never visited him due to the inconvenience), and a locked door in the Temple of Doom can only be opened by mindreading one of the guys killed in the raid (however, you are only missing Jagon's diary - interesting, but not really any new or useful info - and a bit of random low level loot).

I'm pretty sure you can talk to Richard again and accept the quest (mindread him first
Click to reveal..
and confront him on his offer to get more gold and experience per heart)

A third place to get a demon's claw is near the south valley teleporter shrine. Only the first of the three encounters you reach will give the claw.

If you got the drunk seekers sent on a punitive mission, you should have encountered them fighting a troll near Lovis' tower. If you were quick and talked to Merrill before he got killed, you could still get the Luis' Stash quest, which would open the hatch by the church. Other than random low level loot, the only real thing of interest there is a level 5 belt (so you probably already have better) with +12 HP and +1 Evade bonuses.

See here for details on the 4 levers in Broken Valley.

Quest items do not count towards the inventory limit. Once you have the battle tower (high teens to low-ish twenties for character level) you will have a chest you can store loot, alchemy and enchantment ingredients, books, etc.

The white chicken is in one of Bellegar's shrines nearby, just south of Casper. You might want to save (if you wish) and kill the chicken... There is no way to herd it towards Casper, or tell him where it is, etc.
