I just bought the game today I proceeded to install after my purchase and after it installed I Clicked play it then came up with a update divine divinity tab (new window) it says preparing to launch and under that looks like a update bar that never loads and i just wait and wait so i close the window open again but nothing happens i'am I not waiting long enough or is a bug Please help

There was a small update to the original release, but nobody reported this problem in the Steam forum.

Can you start the game directly from the executable, without the Steam client running?
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\divine_divinity\div.exe

Did you try re-installing the game, or verifying local files?

Is updating only automatic? Can you tell Steam not to check for updates (at least until you get the game running) or check for updates without trying to start the game?

Verifying the local cache usually solves this kind of problem on Steam games for me. I didn't experience this problem with this particular game but similar problems with other "older" games.. like Psychonauts for example. I just did the verify local cache and it fixed itself.
