Hello, I have a problem with the disc version (not steam or gog). The game runs fine until I enter Verdistis. There the game crashes to desktop after a short period of time. I get the following error message:
infinite loop detected on npc verdistis patrol1.

This happens also if I leave Verdistis again.

The game version is 1.34.

I am sure that all Verdistis problems were fixed by official Divine Divinity hotfix 1 (1.31). Looks like you have some altered or modified files in the game folder after applying latest official patch 1.34. Maybe even some files from older game version (1.0029A).
Try uninstall the game completely (backup your save games first), remove all remaining files from the game folder then make a clean game reinstall (v1.0029A) and finally apply latest official patch 1.34. Make sure that you run game and patch installation using administrator privileges. Run the game as administrator also. Hope this will solve your problem.

What happens when you enter Verdistis? There should be a cutscene conversation triggered when you move forward with a guard that wakes up long enough to welcome you. The game could have a problem starting or ending something with that NPC.

Try starting a new game and save under a unique name, then use iZakaroN's SaveEditor (or from Kiya's site, with description) to give that character a large constitution and/or experience boost, reload the save, kill a rabbit or open the catacombs to level if you gave yourself experience, and run to Verdistis.
Alternately, you could hex teleport a new character to the entrance of Verdistis (coordinates 81 71, F0 05) if you are comfortable hex editing.

If a new games works, then the problem is likely in your existing character's save files, which may still be fixable. If a new game crashes, as well, the problem would more likely be with the game itself, in which case a clean install may help.

Check your messages (click 'My Stuff' in the top menu bar, then 'Messages').

I think I figured out what is going wrong. Problem is, I started my game with the steam version and went on later with the disk version, using a savegame from steam. This goes fine until you enter Verdistis. I tested it with 2 different savegames from steam version.
After that I started a new game from diskversion. I used a hex-editor to get to verdistis as you suggested. No problem there. So it seems to be a compatibility issue.

I decided to start over again.

Thank you anyway.

That could be. Compatibility should be good going from earlier versions of the game to the Steam version, but any changes to the save format could cause problems going the other way.
