Hi,

I recently bought Divine Divinity on Steam and actually was able to play it once - but once only. Since the second start, the following *always* happens:

Screen turns black and the computer freezes completely (alt-tab, ctrl-alt-del, etc. do not work). After rebooting the machine, windows (windows 7, 64 bit) asks whether it should boot normally or in safe mode.

What I've tried so far:
* Update graphics driver (GeForce GTX 570)
* Reinstall game (multiple times)
* Different resolutions
* Compatibility mode (windows xp s3, also with and without 256 colors and 640x480 resolution)
* Configure either software or D3 in the configuration screen (i forgot the exact option names)

Can somebody maybe provide a pointer on how to get the game running?

Thanks!

Try emailing support@larian.com, with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this topic. Include a dxdiag report (hit Start, enter "dxdiag" into the start menu box, then in the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window that comes up click on "Save all information" and save the report to your desktop, or somewhere it would be handy to email).

An old topic with a different startup problem, that might have some suggestion you haven't tried yet: Purchased from Impulse, game will not run.

I had the same issue, once could play it, then total freeze on blackscreen...

the solution was disabling firewall (comodo) and antivirus (avira), then it worked...

guess the firewall made some stress there...

Personally, I've found the real-time portion of anti-virus programs more trouble than they're worth. Of course that means you have to be careful where you download from and what programs you run, etc.
