Being able to zoom in, rotate the camera around to see the world differently, and would definately be cool -- but good game play is my priority. Note that I am not talking about making DD2 a first-person view, but rather make it like Darkstone, Dungeon Seige, Neverwinter -- like DD is now, but more realism.
I think a a cool feature (that could be toggled off) would be a "Crit-Cam".
Every once in awhile your weapon or spell attack would randomly deal extra damage, and the camera view would snap into super ZOOM to show the death animation. It might be an Instant Replay feature, where you get to watch but the game world doesnt get to affect (kill you) in the mean time, then play returns to normal.
When you kill a mini-boss in a 3D game, there could be a Boss-Cam where your last couple seconds of heroic fighting are replayed in Zoom from a different angle.

3D is the better medium if it is done right, for a 2D game DD is extremely well done, I would also like to add that the "crit-cam" idea would be totally awsome

So long as the crit-cam doesn't get in the way of combat. (ie. You kill the boss first and the game goes into crit-cam mode while there's still 20 minions attacking you.)
Quote: ... It shouldn't be autopaused, at least if it's duration if not much longer than ordinary death animation.
But Egin, in a fast-paced action game like DD or DII, a few seconds can define the difference between death and victory. You would know that two seconds is far enough for monsters to kill you when you play DD (Hard) or DII (Hell).
But but there wasn't any noticeable delay in PST. so, I don't see any problem. Even if animation is a bit longer, then, while one mob is going to pieces you can attack another one, so this will not hurt your gameplay speed.

2D is absolutely beautiful for DD. Keep it as it is. An option to zoom would be cool (so I can see my character up close ) but isn't essential. Make the storyline cool and the quests interesting, and that would make the game great. Also, IMO 3D usually looks hideous and is nausea-inducing.

Is the objective to sell the game, improve and use the technology of today that none before our time had the privilege to see themselves, or both? If other games come out that are similiar with DD2 but have better graphics what will the consumer buy? I light my vote as a torch to guide me ahead in this time of darkness...perhaps others can follow my light leading to a brighter world...
