Interesting idea. I'll play Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG?No. There are a lot of games I won't touch that are RPGs, including anything at all with turn based combat. It's real time or nothing, for me. That's my major sticking point; there are others. How do you decide to buy an RPG?reviews, word of mouth, forums? If I like the like of it primarily, though I do tend to look at word of mouth and reviews a lot more now than I did. Largely to find out if the release is a beta version, though. Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors?Never. I see no point in them. Do you use walk throughs?Only after I have finished a game, to see if there's anything I missed. No-one really needs walkthroughs for an RPG. The puzzle solving games... That's something else again Do you download the latest patch before you start a game?Always. This I have learned the hard way... Do you prefer single character or party?Party. It's hard to role play without group interaction. Do you prefer single player or multiplayer?Single player.

Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG? No, it should interest me and probably get some good reviews. But I'm always on the look-out for an RPG, something I can't say of an RTS for instance. How do you decide to buy an RPG? reviews, word of mouth, forums? A blend of those factors. Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors? Sometimes, for fun, but only after I have finished the game 'legitimately' first. Do you use walk throughs? When I'm really, really dead stuck. (Or am just unable find the complete dragon-set. Who looks in a bloody cellar anyway? ) Do you download the latest patch before you start a game? Sure. Do you prefer single character or party? Single character. Do you prefer single player or multiplayer?Single player.

---Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG? Hubby is a game collector, so i wont have to buy it... its already on the shelve.... but there are few RPGs that i will play... I will play it depending to the playability.... the intensity of the quests... the story line... loads of things i look at.... (Diablo i wont play because there are only 3 quests through the whole game... If mouse over object = yellow, then pick it up If mouse over object = red, then kill it If mouse over object - blue, pick it up its magical) ---How do you decide to buy an RPG?reviews, word of mouth, forums? Word of mouth, Demo, i dont believe reviews.. that just means someone else liked it... forums has the same subjectiveness... its the game fans who hand around... ---Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors? There are 2 things i do professionally: 1.Steal (it was mentioned on a forum, "you know you are a kleptomaniac, when people are scared to come to your funeral, because you might steal their stuff from beyond" (this was said after i discovered that you can still steal after you are dead in BD 2. Cheating, i wont use it every time... but the first time is guaranteed.... ---Do you use walk throughs? Not initially... but if the game is worth playing again, i will make sure that i get all the hidden quests that i may have missed the first time round... ---Do you download the latest patch before you start a game? Oh yeaa.... ---Do you prefer single character or party? Single player... that way all the gold is MINE ---Do you prefer single player or multipalyer? Multiplayer... c'mon who can resist beating their own friends at it????

---Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG? nope, i buy the games that look cool to me.
---How do you decide to buy an RPG?reviews, word of mouth, forums? previews, reviews and when it looks cool to me.
---Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors? i try not to, but when i'm stuck and there is no possible way i can get past it then yes i cheat/ use hacks/editors.
---Do you use walk throughs? if i'm not stuck, i dont use them. if i'm stuck i read the part i need to get on with the game.
---Do you download the latest patch before you start a game? depends on the situation: if the patch has some additional features or items, yes. if it has not i just install it when i want to.
---Do you prefer single character or party? single player, but as a druid i lika a pet(to bad divdiv hasnt druids or pets)
---Do you prefer single player or multipalyer? i like single player more, but i like to show off in multiplayer so its kind a balanced.

Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG?
If it is an good RPG, yes.
How do you decide to buy an RPG?reviews, word of mouth, forums?
Combination of all of these, if possible.
Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors?
I have a rather strict principle : If a game loses its "play" style and instead becomes real hard work, or is unsolvable to me, then I'll cheat. I hardly ever use hacks, only hexediting, if I can manage it.
Do you use walk throughs?
Of course.
But normally only since the point that has been reached in the above mentioned description.
Do you download the latest patch before you start a game?
*Always* if it fits through my Modem. Or I try CD-ROMs which came with magazines.
Do you prefer single character or party?
Personally, I prefer party, but that's simply due to the very first RPGs I've grown up with, so to say.
Do you prefer single player or multipalyer?
If I could afford MP, I'd give it a try. I once played a few sessions D2LOD with some forummembers here and it was a lot of fun !
Since i cannot afford it now, I prefer SP.
Edit : Just discovered that I had already answered here a few years ago. Typical me, I would say.

Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG?
No, but that certainly helps.
How do you decide to buy an RPG?reviews, word of mouth, forums?
The demo. Reviews, word of mouth and forums can get me to try a demo, and in some cases might convince me that the full game is better than the demo would imply (ie bugs fixed, changes made or annoying features, etc much less of an issue). I've rarely bought a game without trying a demo, but if it is cheap I'll gamble based on reviews. If it is not quite so cheap I may buy something based on forum discussion, where there is usually more detail, more people have input and you can judge someone's opinions based on what other games they like or dislike.
Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors?
Generally, no. If part of a game is particularly tedious or not fun I might cheat to get through it easier, rather than quit the game because of it.
Do you use walk throughs?
Usually not, unless I am really stuck. Sometimes I skim through portions of a walkthrough after I have completed that part of a game, to see if I missed anything. If main plot quests or events frequently break uncompleted side quests or if I have to find something in a world of respawning monsters with no clue as to its location (ie Summoner), I will check a walkthrough as I go.
Do you download the latest patch before you start a game?
Yes.
Do you prefer single character or party?
Neither; it depends on the game design. Party based games offer more flexibility in character creation and plot, potentially more strategic combat, etc but also have more complex user interfaces, so there are more things that can be done wrong (though in some cases that may just be a matter of taste).
Do you prefer single player or multipalyer?
Single player. Multi-player can be fun, but trying to match up schedules to finish a longish game can be a problem. There are also issues with quest design in multi-player situations, which AFAIK (only ever tried multi-player with my brother in Diablo I/II) tend to encourage more hack and slash than plot development. This would make me more likely to become bored with playing (as in Diablo), requiring a break (perhaps permanent), and thus exacerbate the scheduling problem.

Will you buy an RPG just by the fact that it is an RPG? I would say about 30-35% more likely.
How do you decide to buy an RPG?reviews, word of mouth, forums? Mainly: Reviews and Demos, although any other means will certainly come into play.
Do you cheat/ use hacks/editors? Only when it is needed (stuck in wall, Lost items, Dead quest), or to create a different character (KoToR -- used editor to have a female scoundrel that looked like a female soldier).
Do you use walk throughs? Mainly for item stats and such, will use if I out think myself and get stuck.
Do you download the latest patch before you start a game? Always, don't you?
Do you prefer single character or party? It really depends on the game.
Do you prefer single player or multipalyer? Again it depends on the game.
