How about a lord of the ring spin off (as seen on bbc's deadringers)it would go something like this.

[Sauromon holds the ring]
Sauromon: At last the ring is mine, finaly I will rule middle earth.
[Gandalf the white apears out of thin air]
Gandalf: Not so fast Sauromon.
Sauromon: This can't be you're dead.
Gandalf: Oh yes gandalf the grey was killed by the dragon. but i've been reborn in gandalf the white.
Sauromon: What a load of [nocando]. You can't stop being dead because your a diffrent color.
Gandalf: thats where youre wrong, its only a fantasy movie.
Sauromon: so what happens if i kill you
[Sauromon shoots him with his staff and gandalf the white drops dead]

Ok, since people are posting ideas here, here's one that I had that I want to put in if I ever get the chance to make a game.
While wandering the world, in some remote area, you find a crack in the mountain, or a door in the mountain, not sure which. It could be that the door is closed and looks like the mountainside, so you wouldn't know it's there unless you highlight it. Anyway, you open the door, and inside you find a lot of machines running and such, kinda like a clock maybe with lots of gears moving. There is a note one a nearby table that says something like:
George -
Make sure you lock the portal this time, the last time it got left open, one of the characters crashed the system.

This note would of course be to and from some of the developers, and it seems that you have stumbled upon the "Engine Room" of the game. Mabye it would be possible for you to "crash" the system, where everything freazes, and one of the developers walks in to fix it, and you are standing frozen. The developer moves you back outside, and locks the door, and fixes the problem, and everything starts back up.

Now, what do you think of that one?

I like the idea. Would be nice if they put a double belt there...

You wouldn't really be able to break it, it just seems like it. It just pauses the actual game, and you see the person walk in, move you, lock the door, and get the game going. You should probably get a message about how did you end up out here when you were just inside that door.

Any references to LOTR, D&D, etc. should probably be more subtle. Like the Dark Elf Amulet -- that was cool. Plus it wasn't in-your-face. I want to find like a "halfling's ring" next to some dead halfling's corpse, and then find some "lord's ring" in a castle... for LOTR references. Hmm, but maybe that's too close to the first one.
