Divinity II - Ego Draconis review: 90% at Gameobserver.com
Monday 11 January 2010

Gameobserver just posted their review for Divinity II and recommend it strongly, reflected in the 90% score they awarded. Here are two quotes:

"Simply put, if you love RPGs the way I do, you’ll love Divinity II"

and

"What on the surface looks like a run-of-the-mill European Action RPG (is there even such a thing??) is made unique through the inclusion of the summoned creature system, the Battle Tower, and the truly phenomenal and well thought out Dragon mode. Putting all of this together in one RPG without having the other aspects of the game suffer is truly a monumental feat and one that shouldn’t go unnoticed. If they find the right audience, Larian could make quite a name for itself creating sequels using the same formula. "

Two more Divinity II - Ego Draconis US reviews
Friday 9 January 2010

Icrontic.com reviewed Divinity II and while they don't gives scores, their impression was very favourable:

"Divinity II is a fun and unique take on the first person tactical RPG genre. Nice graphics, an interesting story, and a fluid development system make this a great example of the genre, even without the dragon gimmick...Divinity 2 is a must have game."

Gamingtruth also had a look and decided to award the game 90%. Here's what they had to say:

"Divinity II: Ego Draconis is a well done RPG, that brings a lot to the table. The title puts a new spin on the genre and will keep the user highly entertained with over 60 hours of gameplay. While the Dragon themed games are nothing new, the folks at Larian Studios are taking it to a higher level of expectations."

"The world is vast and beautiful, and is absolutely teaming with activity. Take off in one direction, and you may find yourself caught in an ambush. Head off somewhere else, and a quest opportunity may appear. Each quest is fulfilling and enjoyable in its own right; some may offer rare potions as a reward, while others will let you play mind games with NPCs. Monday 30 November 2009

Here's their (translated) conclusion:

"Larian Studios has converted their own old concepts, added fresh ideas like mind reading, and has given the player as many non-linear quests as possible. To impress even the most fastidious fans of the genre, they have given the player the chance to become a dragon. We think this adds up to more than enough for a great RPG game!"

Realgamer.net digs Divinity II - Ego Draconis
Friday 27 November 2009

Realgamer.net just posted their review of the English version of the game and seemed to like it, calling it "a truly great role-playing experience". Here's a snip:

"The story is driven forward with some good voice acting which can be quite comical at times, but also by some absolutely stunning cut-scenes which look like they’ve come straight from a CGI blockbuster movie. Quests are pretty original and instead of the simple retrieving of objects as in some roleplaying games...The game is absolutely huge! I invested between 30 to 35 hours in the game and still had many quests to undertake and visit some of the varied locations which range from small hamlets to intricate towns and sheer cliffs with camps littered throughout!"

Final score: 8/10 - Read the full review here.

Interview at Gameslife.ru with Farhang Namdar, Lead Game Designer Divinity II
Monday 9 November 2009

Russian game site Gameslife.ru recently had an interview with Farhang Namdar, Lead Game Designer for Divinity II – Ego Draconis.
Here’s a snippet in English:

Q: Nowadays there's tendency to make RPG characters more or less believable. Brutal warriors covered with scars and tattoos are true trademark of present RPG generation. But in Divinity 2 we can see sleek well-groomed heroes who wear shiny, fancy armor. Why had you chosen to give up naturalism and create noble rosy-cheeked warriors?
A: We mustn’t forget that the game has its’ own universe and also how far are you willing to go in the design process to make it realistic. As far as the puzzles and dialogs in the game are concerned we tried to keep them light and funny so having these bruised and cut warriors wouldn’t have fitted the context immediately.

Jeuxvideo’s verdict for Divinity II: 16/20
Thursday 15 October 2009

Jeuxvideo reviewed Divinity II - Ego Draconis and was positively surprised by it. It's in French, but the reviewer (who rated it 16/20) like the game a lot:

"D'une manière générale, Divinity II fait la part belle à l'exploration et récompense toujours les joueurs inquisiteurs d'un petit coffre caché ou d'un volume contenant de précieuses informations sur l'histoire de Rivellon."

"Mais la meilleure idée de Divinity II est encore la fameuse transformation en dragon, qui promet de voler dans les airs tout en crachant des boules de feu. [...] L'expérience est effectivement grisante, grâce au sentiment de puissance procuré et à la liberté de mouvement offerte."

And

"Agrémenté d'une durée de vie s'étalant sur plusieurs dizaines d'heures de jeu, il bénéficie en outre d'une réalisation soignée et d'une série de décors franchement réussis qui ne tombent jamais dans la répétition."

Rivellon from beneath in 360 degrees
Wednesday 15 July 2009

This week we dig a bit deeper into the world of Rivellon. About a mile deeper actually, as we present an awesome new 3d shot from one of Divinity II's terrifying dungeons. Check it out to get a first impression of the dark and foreboding places you will be exploring in a few months time!

And this is what Farhang Namdar, Lead Game Designer has to say about this week's screenshot:

"Flying as a dragon is awesome. Destroying enemy emplacements as an airborne, fire breathing lizard is a great way to blow off some steam, but sometimes, you really just can't beat a good, old fashioned dungeon crawl! Shapeshift to your human form, and you can explore many different labyrinths within the world of Rivellon, searching for treasure, avoiding traps and generally laying the smackdown on any nasty denizens you come across. Load up with supplies and prepare to face some of the most fiendish and deadly catacombs you have ever taken steps into!"

We at Larian love our dungeons almost as much as our dragons, we remember plotting out our own maps on graph paper in the far and distant past, and we hope that you will clearly see this passion shine through in the final game! We really wanted to convey that classic dungeoneering experience, enriched with physical challenges and brain cracking puzzles with all the modern production values that you would expect, but most importantly, its FUN.

Enter freely and of your own will, adventurer!"

Finally prepare for Friday, when the final Act of the epic Divinity II Cinematic Trailer will reveal new pieces of the story.
Have fun!

Eurogamer previews Divinity II: Ego Draconis
Monday 13 July 2009

Eurogamer has posted a very positive preview of our upcoming RPG Divinity II – Ego Draconis along with a bunch of new screenshots. They praise the dynamic fighting system, the depth of the story and the humor.

Translation in English:

"Divinity II: Ego Draconis is the big surprise of upcoming RPG’s this autumn. The game does many things right in many ways. The story reveals a pleasant depth, the fights are dynamic and the quests are fastidious. Add some great humor on top of that (which doesn’t stop short of Monty Python’s Killer Rabbit). I like it when the developers don’t take themselves and their game too serious."
