First of all, we cannot stress enough the importance of making sure your drivers are up to date, that you have the latest service packs from Microsoft installed and that you are running the latest version of DirectX which is DirextX 9.
Secondly, make sure you have the latest patches installed. Click on the "Support" link to see a list of the available patches for the different language versions.
Make sure no other programs are running during the installation-process (e.g. anti-virus).
If this doesn’t help you should be able to fix the problem by copying all the data from the CDs to a directory on your hard drive. Then launch the setup from within that directory.
(If you get an I/O error while copying, it means the CD is damaged and you should get a replacement copy from your store.)
I made backups from my save games and now I can’t load them anymore.
When you copy files from a CD to your HDD, the read-only flag is set by Windows, preventing Beyond Divinity to open these files for writing. Clear the read-only flag by right clicking on the files, selecting properties, unchecking the "read only" flag and then clicking on "apply".
Error: "Wrong Volume in Drive" when installing the program.
1) When you insert the CD make sure the CD-drive is ready before clicking on “OK”.
2) Make sure no other programs are running during the installation-process (e.g. anti-virus).
If that did not solve your problem you can copy all the data from the CDs to a directory on your hard drive. Then launch the setup from within that directory.
Due to a Windows 98 resolution switching problem, going from one chapter (or "act" in the game) to
another might crash the game. Please consider this workaround: save before entering the next
act (chapter), and restart the game in 640x480 mode. To change this setting, run the configuration
tool (a shortcut to this tool can be found in the Larian program group of your start menu). You may
then load the savegame and enter the next act without crashing. After your arrival in this next act,
save again and quit the game. You can then change the resolution to the one you like best and
continue playing.
Update: This problem is solved since the 1.45 patch.
ProbIem with having an internal IDE cdrom drive and an external USB cdrom drive.
The protection system is tailored to work on IDE drives, you should preferably use this one. If this is not an option, please
contact support@larian.com.
I cannot start the game. It's asking for a key. There is no key anywhere.
Don't worry. There is no key anywhere as normally, no CD key is needed. The protection checks if the CD is not a copy. If the protection fails, you have to request a key by contacting us. (You may want to read the next question to solve this problem.)
A crash occuring with "test" or "apply and close" in the config tool is probably due to a problem with the drivers of your video card. Installing the latest drivers should fix the problem.
I'm having problems with Windows XP Service Pack 2 beta
If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 beta you may encounter problems with the game. You should update to a final release of the Windows XP Service Pack 2.
I use Windows XP 64bit and experience problems with the copy protection
We have been looking into this matter and the problems with WinXP64 seem to be related to the copy protection, though theorethically WinXP64 should be fully backwards compatible. Unfortunately, due to the way we implemented the copy protection in Beyond Divinity, it is impossible for us to upgrade to a version that is compatible with WinXP64.
