Hi all,

I grabbed the demo off of Steam. I've really enjoyed it, but it's unplayable. Every time, the game freezes at a loading screen after I first meet Talana.

On top of that, I can't exit to Windows. The game freezes with my hard drive churning. I have to go to task manager and kill Divinity2.exe.

I'd like to buy the full version, but I just can't do that until I know it will be playable.

Hi,

When does the freeze occur?
After you have played the dragon part or right after the Talana dialog?

If after the dragon part, a movie is supposed to play, which could hint at a codec issue.
Restoring Direct3D codecs can be done with this tool: http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm

In the troubleshoot tab there is an option to restore Direct3D Codecs.

It actually happened in both places. The first time I got to that point, I did the dragon part, then a movie played, THEN it freezed (with a black screen, if memory serves). On each subsequent attempt, it froze on the loading screen just before the dragon part.

The demo ends after the movie following the dragon part (dream scene). A splash screen is supposed to show at this point.

The latest version of DKS has received more patches since the release of the demo. Especially the quitting the game issue should no longer be present.

If you do decide to purchase DKS, be sure to uninstall the demo completely before installing the full game.

Do you have any explanation for why it froze before the dragon part every other time, though?

Could be a number of reasons that are not necessarily related to our game. It is possible of course, but I handle most incoming support issues personally and a freeze like the one you are describing is a first, at least for the full game. We do not get many support issues related to the demo.

That does not mean we can't help in figuring out what the cause is or look for a solution. You can also try running our support tool http://www.larian.com/hotfixes/supporttool/LPC_Divinity2.exe and sending the report.xml it generates to support[at]larian.com together with a link to this thread, although I am not sure this will work on a demo installation.

I am having an issue almost identical to this aswell.

I have the full steam version of the game (not the demo) and have had issues at the same spot.

Right after talking to Talana (at the loading screen for the 'dragon dream') the game has locked up several times. Resulting the in need to Ctrl Alt Del and start task manager and kill DIvinity 2 manually.

I have managed to get past that point a couple times, but have ended up having to replay that part (forgetting to save.. and dieing) and i would have had it lock up roughly 15-20 times at that same loading screen.

I have managed to get past that point and saved so i dont need to go through it again (this is the third time it actually got past that load screen, and did the dragon dream to include the video at the end without a hitch.

All i can say is just be persistant! I'm very stubborn when it comes to locking up games and such and have near infinite patience with things such as this, so iwas able to sit there and load/reload many time until i got past the load screen.

Have you contacted support at support@larian.com ?
They might be able to give you a more permanent -and mostly quicker - solution.

I am also having the same issue at the same spot. as soon as she stops talking the game freezes up

so we should just keep trying?

does this happen at other points in the game too?

also I think I am getting a bug in the preceding cutscene, talana at first just appears to be sort of crouched frozen in place. I looked at the scene on you tube and she is supposed to be stumbling towards you but she doesn't animate

It wouldn't hurt to keep trying a few times, in case it is semi-random. A couple people have mentioned having a problem here, but not later in the game.

The problem with the preceding cutscene could be a codec issue. See the reply in the topic In-game video 'lag' Win7 64-bit (STEAM) (different problem, but most of the suggestions are relevant).

As above, you can also email support@larian.com, with a description of the problem and maybe a link to this topic. See the DKS support page.
